They used a jackhammer on an excavator to 'fix' the track through my favourite section :(
Going to take a lot more than use and run off to put the steps back into it. 20 years of lifted patrols might do it.
Still a challenge though, i got a puncture from a stick and broke my aerial on a branch.
It's now 2017, & although i have not yet ventured this track to the top, i have at least been to the Grotto in a EA Falcon with LSD, in the early 90's. I took that vehicle many places that opened the eyes of 4wdrivers when i arrived. That boast aside, i now have a standard '03 3.4 V6 Hilux 4x4 ute, & wonder if i would be game to do that track to the top on my own, if it is still open. So, my question is, who graded the track many years ago, ( & if one is going to grade a track, why not grade the whole length of it,) to make it accessible in certain parts only? That this track was originally made by heavy vehicles for a specific purpose, & why, is a question no one, ( except Col,) can answer. The fact that 4x4's can, with use, make a track more usable is juxtaposed with the fact that 4x4's can ruin a track, & while i commend those who gave their time in repairing this track, i would suggest that this track should remain in its original form, for the experienced to negotiate, & the novice to, (heart in mouth,) cut his, or her, teeth on ... Oh, & by the the way, the NPWS has no legal right to close a public road, but that is politics, which we won't talk about here, unless you really want to know ...Quote:
