some times they don't even pick up on when a package is worth over $1000

all overseas stuff seems to land ex Sydney, any thing I've had sent from overseas, gets scanned, has even been inspected.

From time to time I buy a lot from the UK and have never had any problems with customs

As mentioned in other posts, under a grand and you're sweet - there are exceptions - such as tyres - you may get slugged a $40 AQIS inspection fee sometimes with these, but a starter is fine.

I've had a number of orders from O/S. No problems. As others have said as long your under $1000 excluding freight you will be fine. My bigest order so far has been ~$800

Thanks for the replies, fellas, very reassuring. Overnight I received a number of E- mails , bringing me up to date on the progress of the transaction, even one from TNT Express giving me a site where I can track the progress of the item ! This 21'st century's not too bad, I might make more of an effort to join it. Still marvel at how an article from the other side of the World is cheaper than here, [ not made in China, either]

If you get an email from DHL about needing to pay a frieght charge after the item has been delivered, it will be a scam. DHL will not deliver unless all charges have been paid.
