Thats not a truck, it's a wheelbarrow (and rides like one)
Its a 94 model turbo diesel. No electrickery and leaf sprung live axles with a comfortable modern interior and the lovely things like aircon etc.
Oh and did i mention its a Hilux![]()

But Mick,in 60 years time will it still be going and is it a real Toyota or a poor cousin and really I think the last real Hilux came out in 1984. Pat
No reason that it wont. A nice simple diesel with no useless electric control and leaf springs over live axles. As long as i keep the rust demons away it'll be ticking along just fine. If its good enough for Top Gear not to be able to kill then its good enough for me. Easy clean vinyl interior and nice cold aircon to boot. No engine computers for this little black duck. KISS.
As long as it keeps me fishing, camping and hunting then i am a happy chappy.
Nothing wrong with leaf springs and live axles Mick. But 'comfortable modern' , really !!. Remove the rose coloured glasses or tongue from cheek and you'll be the first (maybe second) to admit that the Japs couldn't make a leaf spring or a comfortable seat to save their lives. Still, if you want a solid reliable 4WD that is more uncomfortable off road (if it's a dual cab), than a SII LR you've got it. Still, plenty of after market springs and seats around to sort it out. Didn't think the turbo versions came out till '98 with the 3 litre?
Congrats on the new wheels.
Deano![]()
She is a dual cab. It will swap duties between work truck, and camping truck. Turbo off a Surf bolted on and engineered. Modern interior as in ergonomic rather than a metal shelf which i am used to. Cupholders and everythingvery flash. Oh and aftermarket lifted springs.
Nice Mick,
I was going to buy a Hilux but having the Landrover bug and not being able to afford two offroad vehicles I got a Disco with a busted motor. (Ouch)At least you'll have a rock solid reliable vehicle to get you round when your Landy is in for repairs.
Besides, they ride nicer than a Cruiser. As an aside, has anyone tried those electronic rust stoppers? I never hear anything about them so I guess they aren't so flash.
