Thread: Nosey (Chemist) shop assistants.

Last time at the bank, when pulling out 12k in cash, the teller kept asking what it was for(it is her job) I insisted it was for purchasing heroine, she kept asking and I kept insisting heroine, once she had counted etc she tried for one last final time, in all seriousness what was it for, I replied ok ok it's for cocaine, snatched my money and left

I can somewhat understand your annoyance, however have you considered that the assistant might have just been doing what she was told to by a chemist who was acting in a responsible manner?

I can only agree that the enquiry shold be made in a confidential way....

It's hard to imagine her being "nosey" as there would just be too much information in any one day to absorb any specific knowledge about a specific customer.

Perhaps be a bit understanding about a youngster learning the job ?

There would be a lot for a teenager to absorb in the on-the-job training they would get I reckon

Anything containing codeine now is required to be dispensed "officially" by the pharmacist. In practice the assistants give you the third degree the pharmacist would and then ask them.

Required by law.

I was of the understanding that if you wanted to deposit or withdraw more than 10k. You were required to complete a declaration of sorts of where u got the money or you intended use of it..

A friend of mine who works in a bank is telling me its to stop money laundering.

Any idea if this is true .

I think Ron's answer is about the codeine containing Panadeine, remember when you could buy mega packs of it at the supermarket and now it's not even in the shop?

It is because some drug users are baking the codeine out of the tablets and using it to inject etc.

It is why you can no longer buy it in large boxes even at the Pharmacist and why the shop assistant is asking the question.

Maybe it's different down there but I have often either withdrawn or deposited amounts well about 10k and I've never been asked either where it was from or what I want the money for..
