    Tasmanian Rally against Track closures

    Hi All

A Rally against Track closures is to be held at Smithton on Sunday 20th May, all interested off road users are invited to attend.

Please come to show your support for the reversal of the decision to close tracks in the North west of Tasmania.

4wd Tasmania: A Rally is to be held to at Smithton on the 20th of May.

In the past, it has been possible to travel from Strahan to Woolnorth near Cape Grime, following the coast it is a fantastic 4wd trip taking a couple of days, now to be denied to future travelers.

I certainly will be there morally. Will send a letter to the minister stating my view and support. I might live in Qld, but have been to Tassie several times, and plan to go several more.

For those who can only be there in spirit, go HERE and scroll down to fill out the email form. It takes all of 30 seconds and will show support and that you care.

I recommend you look into what Gillian Duncan did about mountain bike track closures around Brisbane. It took a bit of time and a lot of work, but now she has working bees with hardcore mountain bike riders to help minimise erosion on track, and now there are signposted tracks around the forest, which even have track difficulty marked on each track.

They even have their own freight container in the park at the bottom of gap creek reserve where they store tools like shovels etc.

Closing is not the answer, but encouraging people that use the park to become more involved in its care is definitely the answer.

Very good suggestion timbo. I have not had my fat ass in lycra for a while now, but for years I enjoyed those tracks.

I sent mine away a week ago,and got a reply yesterday, from the ministers electoral officer, thanking me for my email, and that it will be brought to the ministers attention.I don't live in Tassie, but I love the place, and some of the most pristine areas in the country,I want to be able to go back there, and enjoy what MY country has to offer.

So that my email wasn't treated as spam, I wrote; Regards and my full name at the end of the text.
I did get a reply back from the minister's office by reply email.

I would be interested to know if anyone else gets a reply as well, especially if they didn't sign .
