Well, you gave the answer yourself already, didn't you? Keep the D1 and take over the D2. Negotiate a fair deal with your old man. You simply don't sell a Landy that belongs to the family. Never...

Hi Everyone, i need some help to influence a pretty big decision.
Right now, i have a 1998 300tdi Auto Discovery, bought it off my aunty and it has 323,000km on it, just put new rings and injectors in it to make it go like new again, the car originally came from our dealership so it has been in the family it's whole life, i have plans such as making it into a ute/offroad toy etc, but right now it only has a little bit of gear on it (winch, nudge bar etc.)
BUT
Mum has a 2001 D2 Td5 Manual, absolutely beautiful original car, with only 170,000km on it, dad is looking at getting her a new Freelander 2, so the D2 will become redundant, leaving the oportunity for me to buy it as a blank canvas, and it certainly goes a lot better than my Tdi and uses less fuel.
Basically i have 2 options, keep the tdi (let the rego lapse as it is due soon) and buy (pay off over time) the Td5 and drive that instead and do it up a bit to make it a bit of an all rounder (touring essentially). OR sell the Tdi, buy the td5 (completely) and then just have the 1 car. The thing i don't like about the whole thing is that i don't want to sell my cars (i want to collect them). And it would be nice to keep the D1 in the family as it is uncannily solid and reliable and i love the thing, would certainly make a good ute one day.
HELP What should i do????
Cheers

There are people who spend all weekend cleaning the car.
And there are people who drive Discovery.
Thirded?
Still kicking dad for selling off his SIIa...

I'm liking that idea aswell, i might let the rego on the old girl lapse, as it will need a blue-slip anyway when i make it a ute, i have to decide whether i should take it and leave it at the farm or not though. I'll see if dad will let me have the car and pay it off slowly, that should be okay with him i hope, the D1 is worth more to me than what i'll get for it, just have to watch my pennies (i'm only in year 12) and leave the modding for later on.

Thats what HECS is for haha, i'm gonna need to save up for a big garage, when i was working on the tdi, nothing of dads was in there lol he was a bit annoyed, the veteran was under the carport, my buggy and my buggy trailer and my disco were all in there (and they were all a work in progress at that stage). Now to go and get a good HSC so i can be a mechanical engineer and afford it all LOL.

I have decided that if i end up with the D2, i'll sell the D1 and buy the D2 (after i take all my goodies off the D1), that allows me to buy the D2 and have a few less projects (money pits), plus i'd really like to build a v8 manual Defender 90 soft top, i'll let someone else enjoy the Disco. It's too good a car to chop up, and i don't really need a ute. Shame really i like it, but i have to think realistically.
Cheers
