I immediately thought of our modern day height restrictions, then I remembered seeing a freight train heading South, albeit many moons ago, loaded with ADF 110's. I know it never happened without pics but it's hard to pull a camera out of thin air whilst a train traverses at plus 100kph past a Country signal box.

    Stuffed around by freight company

Murray, I purchased my new Puma from the Land Rover dealer in Cairns because I happened to be there on holiday and he had the car I wanted in stock. I live in Kilkivan, a long way south and the dealer arranged to transport the car to Gympie for me. It all worked out safely, to plan and on schedule and I couldn't have been happier. From memory I copped about $400 over what I would have paid if I'd taken delivery in Cairns.
That dealer is moving vehicles up and down the coast all the time to sell in Cairns and had a good relationship with the transporter and may well have been able to get a better rate than us mere mortals. But you should try that Vehicle Transport company for a quote. There name is Coastline Vehicle Transport , their address 3 years ago when they moved my car was 2666 Ipswich Road, Darra QLD 4076 phone 07 3375 5061.
Give them a try and if that fails, drive home via Kilkivan where you can all camp and look at my ridjidige rear wheel carrier.
    Regards, Hayden

No quote number, no written quote with a signature on it? No Quote.

Most quotes are also only good for a predertermined amount of time unless other wise stated on the quote.

From memory In aus if its not stated a quote is only good for a month or 28 working days.

Company concerned isn't arguing the quote - they're simply saying they stuffed it up and can't (and won't) do it for the original price.

Yes - it could probably be taken further, but as Garycol said earlier - not a practical idea unless there is already alternative transport in place before starting any action. Transport companies are pretty good at losing stuff anyway. Don't really need a few months of trying to find my 110 with zero help from the
    company concerned.

Anyway - what's really needed at the moment is an alternative company that has reasonable pricing, and half a friggin clue of what they are doing.

    X 2 For Ceva Logistics.

I purchased a 110 Trayback from Northern Sunshine Coast and had it transported to Melbourne for around $500 including pick up from sellers house. Depot to Depot would have been cheaper.

Question for those who've used CEVA - do you know if they take vehicles with personal effects (ie still loaded with gear at the end of a Cape York trip)?

Ring around the general freight companies and owner drivers. My old patrol thru it's harmonic balancer into the radiator in Gladstone. We were traveling to Seymour, Victoria and found that our road side assist only covered for a tow to the nearest workshop. My dad who is a truckie said to ring the freight companies as they often have to travel back empty and any load, even if it just pays the fuel costs is welcome. I traveled with the car from Gladstone to Brisbane then Brisbane Seymour for $1200. Both low loaders. And the first company arranged the drop off for the next pick up. Down side I had to sleep in the car two nights.

AFAIR Ceva won't accept vehicles loaded with personal effects, but a quick Ph call will help to confirm, AND I would say they will be more than $500 from Cairns to Melb

I had our LS430 transported from Port Macquarie to Melbourne, $720, Dealer to Depot.
