The Anti 4WD Drive brigade would only read the headline of course.

    Terrible loss to the family.

The media just loves to stress 4WD when something like this happens. Sensationalism sells more papers unfortunately.

I know what you are getting at but aren't we being a bit sensitive?

If it was a bicycle/sport's car/truck this would have also been described in the heading.

    Yes, sad story though.

Reading through the article, I wonder if there will be a call to ban trains too?

Bit of a thread drift, but I note a proposal to reduce bicycles to 20KMH in Melbourne CBD.....here, here Good luck policing that one.

A 4wd Lancer - he must have the only Lancer from the Dakar team availble....

(yeah probably some evo 16 or something) you are right, the head lines dont portray the story correctly.

    yeah, sensationlist media

Some of you need to read the headline AND the article again. The boy was hit by a 4wd, the driver of the lancer was a witness

Yet another sad loss, where were the parents?

I agree. I didn't really get any anti 4WD vibe from this. Most important is to feel for the family - having lost a son in a no fault car accident I can tell you there is no getting over this for the family. The best we can do as 4WDrivers is to always make sure we drive responsibly and safely every time we get behind the wheel - it wont stop the 4WD haters out there but just dont give them any extra ammunition.

The Lancer driver is a potential witness to the incident, not the 4wd involved.

Other news outlets had no mention of a 4WD involved at all.

I dont think the story was anti 4wd but the anti 4wd lobby will probably use it anyway. Half the problem is anything bigger than a Hyundai I20 is called a 4wd. Most are actually AWD. Irrelevant of what the car was the result would have been similar.
    Really sad for the family.
