    Sat Phone Rates

If any members are thinking of buying an Inmarsat Satellite phone based on the very long credit expiry date of 2 years and low call rates which I believe have been mentiond on this forum before (as I did), please be aware of a change in their rate structure as shown in this link sent to me by text today. http://www.mgltelecoms.com/new-inmarsat-airtime-rates

If you are with TC Communications and get in fast you can still buy credits now ( before 1 June) for the old price, ($90 for 100 units) the shelf life is good for Once validated they last 2 years,..

The new increased price for 100 units is $111
still nothing to complain about ,

I am with MGL and it is not the cost of the airtime but the short time it will now last. I still have 12 months to use up my existing credit but it will become expensive after that. Not happy.

Can you recharge with any provider anywhere with the same sim or do you have to activate a new sim? I've got 2 years left on mine so not urgent, just interested for future reference.

Yes, the Iridium Motorola ones. The call rates are very high and the sim has to be post paid with international roaming active.

"The call rates are very high "
Have a mate who does just this I guess it depends what you mean by very high?

A month or so ago he got bogged at morgans landing
Brad made a rescue call to me - called his mrs and sent a couple of txts as the rescue progressed
All up $10 or so - seems pretty good value to me if its just for emergency contact!

He bought the Iridium handpiece second hand for less half what a new phone would cost including the maximium rebate????
