My D1 now has 340,000 on the dial, and I have not had any more problems than any other vehicle.

I had a Defender like that. I sold it and bought a Disco. It's the best car I've ever owned.

    The P38 was less drama ... ?

A LR independant warned me ''Never drive a P38, - 'cos they're so nice you'll want one...and they are the biggest heaps of (insert appropriate) ever built. - I hate them, despite the work they bring me! "

What really cheeses me off, is the stuff that fails are the same thingsthat the Japs have had perfected for decades.

Water pumps, SWITCHES, transmissions, diffs, CV's, plastic trim, dashboards, head linings, Air-cons, heaters, demisters, ELECTRIC -everythings.... etc.
Even their choice of radio ('95 Classic Vogue) was the least efficient/cheapest/badly designed & built on the market.

And the Auto-dimming interior rearview mirror is'nt a patch on a manually dipping prismatic, - from ANY Jap car. - It does'nt go dark enough to cope with hi-beam behind you... especially HID's.

I'd say that some LR owners have driven Jap cars... but not many have owned them... long enough to get bored with the lack of failures...
But if you enjoy a Challenge, then you will be amply fulfilled with LR.

As I said before, too many start green...and end up yellow. Some go Orange.
Most Japs go orange, only a few yellows....

In the 4 or so years I've spent 1.5 times the purchase price on it. New engine, auto, MAF, suspension, now after an accident another 10K going into it (ok not my money but I don't have to replace everything with the goodness I'm selecting. Advice, in a front end accident D2 owners claim for a pair of front radius arms, it'll give you another $3600)

My wife complains it's always getting worked on and never driven. She doesn't understand when I say it's about the lifestyle it affords. Still stick around, you may end up warning someone off buying yours if they come on asking about "should I buy this D2?"

While I love my Disco and sad to be giving her up I have came to a point where I am not doing anymore work on it. To date this is what has gone wrong.

    1) ABS regulator,
    2) ABS sensors,
    3) Fuel Pump,
    4) Universal Joints,
    5) Injector seals,
    6) Injector loom,
    7) Engine mounts,
    8) Horn buttons,
    9) Roof Sagging
And now the roof is leaking.

And a new car is always a treat and will be easier driving down to the city for work it will be easier.

So again farewell, and this site should be proud of the community they have created.

Hi Josh, sorry to hear you had so many dramas. Do drop in from time to time - you never know, the bug might bite again one day...

    Cheers - Gav
