1999 Defender, 40,000kms
10P head lasted 37,000kms - fault was fuel getting into coolant inside head.
Replaced with new 15P head, finger crossed it has a longer life.
Mine got 140,000kms before the engine blew - hole burned through the first piston. Still waiting for a new long motor to be fitted.
It was serviced regularly although I am not sure why. I should have saved the service cost and just waited for it to blow.
Before I sold my vehicle to update it had 275,000kms &no engine work.
Ancillaries replaced, water pump, various hoses, MAF, turbo modulator solenoid & regularly serviced.
Was a great vehicle.

2004 Td5 auto. Purchased at 120k. All as it left the factory.
3yrs & 43k done (now 163k) done 1 x top radiator hose, 1 x PS res' to PS pump hose.
Everything else done was an add-on/std servicing. I reckon I'm roughly 1/3 of the way through its useful life.![]()

Got 275k from mine. If the harmonic balancer hadn't **** itself and buggered the crank it'd still be good. It's been totally rebuilt now and fully expect it to last for ever.

1999 TD5 130 with 150,000km on the clock, mostly stock save a chip.

2002 Def, bought with 38K 5 years ago.
Service it myself every 10K - 15K.
Now on 210K, replaced the FPR about 2 years ago and did the clutch a couple of weeks ago due to fork/pushrod failure. Removed the EGR last weekend.
Love That Car !!!!
Cheers, Jurgens
150,000KM still running like new. To be honest it didn't run as well when it was new. Took about 20,000km to really loosen up.
Good to see, by others accounts, that it should last a while longer.
I'd also love to here about the bad experiences. Is it worthwhile balancing this thread with those that have had major surgery (or transplant) on their Td5?
I have heard a few horror stories - such as the well documented oil pickup issue.
[Probably should not count hydraulic damageby over enthusiastic river crossings!
