oz hitch camper hitches

Hi Guys... Norm from OzHitch here. Not sure at this stage where you got your hitch from but if you got it online you would have been sent an auto generated email that says "PLEASE READ" in red capital letters. It goes on to explain you will need to watch a certain video to get the best out of your hitch. The video shows you exactly how to use it and make it as effortless as it shows on the video. Yes it does take a little getting used to, but I have a 2ton Bushtracker caravan and hitch it up as easy as in the video every time NO tricks. If you havent seen the video then probably a good time to have a look. Just to explain it to you myself... if the uni joint is in the bottom of the cradle the holes are NOT lined up. :+) They are lined up when you raise the jockey wheel up just a little. This lines the holes up. If you can imagine if they sat on and lined up on the bottom of the cradle you would have metal to metal contact and before long no rust prevention coating as it would have worn off, so we separate the surfaces by making the line up holes 1/2 mm of the base.

Hi Hitch guru - thanks for the input. I bought mine off you and viewed all the documents and videos. Now I did not expect it would actually work as you did in the videos so the issues I had were no surprise - as I said a 1000% better than what I had before - and as you indicated a little jiggling of the car height (RRS) or jockey wheel does bring it into a sweet spot that makes things easier - having to use a hammer to move the pin is no bad thing.

The system works well when lined up for and aft but laterally is more problematic though - I think you need to take the dags off the casting as they are chewing my rubber bits. I think if I were building it I would change the "shute" that the tow bar end slides down into to also account for lateral displacement. (I am putting in a reversing camera to try and get around this.

My comments should be taken more as items to think about for the next version rather than a major critique - as I said a 1000% better than what I had though I think that the hyland is a little more user friendly but if you took into account lateral alignment than as good. Certainly better than Treg etc.

Also I cannot park on level ground (and on grass) to connect my trailer so the lateral issue becomes important.

Good product though.

i agree with these guys above......after plenty of research and watching mates struggle with there removable pin type hitches the DO35 is by far the easiest and straight forward i could fine, just line the pin up underneath and lower the draw bar. unhitching, its as easy as lifting the draw bar........I have a bad back and the last hing i needed was to pulling pushing pins in and out.,...

take a walk around caravan parks and you quite often see a camper still hitched to the car if they use the removable pin method, i figure it just two much of a ain the arse for an overnight stay

I've pretty much seen most of these hitches being used and I reckon they are pretty much the same.

Save your money, get used to the hitch, they take time to master, keep them lubricated and they are fine, use a silicon based lube.

Hi Kelvin, I will be looking at a new hitch soon as I'm going to electric brakes, been looking at the McHitch, but have a look at the DO-35 as well, although the McHitch is a lot cheaper.

I just use a TREG. Its nice and simple and basic, like me.

I guess when it comes down to it they all pretty well do the same job. I had a treg for years on my old camper and it was fine. I have played around with the Oz hitch and as Norm had suggested and with a bit of patience it works reasonably good. Last sunday on the beach the wind was blowing and it was raining and I had no patience!

I also use a treg, i use it on the beach alot, more then most on here would and i can say i have NEVER had an issue lining it up or getting the pin in or out.... I just make sure i keep the pin clean and occasionally give it a hit with some lube... nothing to hard and it always works as intended.
