    ANCAP

Holden Colorado awarded top safety rating

Hoping to sell to miners maybe.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

The old Rodeo, Colorado/Dmax has always been marketed as a farm utes, what they lack in technological advancements and ergonomics they make up for in reliability and cheap serviceability. They are what you buy when you cannot convince yourself to buy a new Land Rover or Toyota.

The 2011 model I have is good, but I feel a mine environment would kill it and any other vehicle rather quickly.

The new model hasn't got anything to do with Isuzu so I don't know how long it will last as a farm hack, let alone a mine ute.

Probably. But its funny you know, when they put a safety rating on a vehicle and you have a family it's pretty hard to justify having a vehicle with a lower safety rating. The way I see it, if you have a choice between two vehicles and one is safer in a crash, its a no brainer. It's one of the reasons I have a D2 now instead of my old defender. 3 ANCAP stars is better than none.
And it still has a TD5

    Ancap 5 is bollocks anyway...

I dont give 2 hoots what my vehicle does to a wayward pedestrian

Ancap testing is only really valid IF your vehicle crashes just like the test...
Anything outside this is open to a lot of.... luck / Karma etc. etc....

I'd also take my Ancap 3 D2 vs an Ancap 5 Yaris any day...

Which is safer in a crash?

If I was in the D2, i think the Yaris driver is about to have a really bad Ancap 5 day....

Depends on the type of impact.

Physics of mass really takes over in this instance....

I've attended to some horrendous crashes... And most often.. Size (mass) wins...

I'd have to agree in most cases. Just bought the missus a new i30 though and one of the factors that sold us on it vs the same type of car from Kia was the 5 star rating (vs the Kia's 4 star). I'd still prefer, no matter what size of car, to have a good ancap rating. Electronic Brake Distribution and all the other driving aids are factored into the ANCAP ratings too and I think these are gold.

Having a head on into a stationary object in a defender for example with no airbags or crumple zones - I'd rather have a D2 anyday. Hence one of the reasons I got rid of my old bus.

What makes me laugh is though that the safest cars on the road are generally expensive - and so the people that drive them are generally older, richer and technically more experienced so why do they need safer cars ?????
