Dyneema rope + fairlead rollers - setup?
http://i514.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/IMG_2482.jpg
Just performed a winch upgrade and installed a Tigerz11 1200lb winch into my ARB bull bar. The winch came with Dyneema rope and everyone i spoke to said "you must run a hawse plate" The thing is I have a bull bar designed to use fairlead rollers. Using purely a hawse plate would enable the rope to come into contact with the protruding steel designed to take the fairlead rollers – under pressure, this could be a nasty situation J
So, after some deliberations, a couple of beers, taking into consideration all this talk of rope getting caught up in the corner of the rollers etc, I decided to do some preliminary testing of the rope running through the rollers at all sorts of angles. I just can’t see how the rope would get stuck or damaged as long as the rollers are in good shape.
So after purchasing a new set of rollers to ensure no rough parts etc, I installed the winch and failread setup.
Can anyone tell me conclusively if I’m going to have issues? Anyone done similar – feed back etc appreciated.
Thanks,
R,

On 4wd tv, they installed plastic rollers as a fella had a bull bar designed for a roller fairlead, they were black, i fail to see how the rope could get caught, but anyway.

I run a hawse plate but have looked at rollers before I got the dyneema if the rollers are set up right getting the rope caught would be a rare thing only likely to happen on an extreme angle pull, but if it did happen the the rope would be US maybe even break at a bad point of a winch op. I do think in on the whole the risk is overstated but you never know

Rope Rollers for Synthetic Winch Rope
While you're at it, you can tidy things up with one of these.
I usually buy Daystar stuff from Expedition Exchange, but at the moment they don't seem to have the polyurethane rollers listed on their website.
