abusing freedom of speech and protest

I have recently returned from a trip away with work.

Again I was appalled at the blatant abuse people make of their right to protest or speak.

Although a reasonable number of this group had intent to be peaceful others abused locals in their own town for living there!, scratched cars indiscriminately in the car parks, damaged signs and fences and generally made a deliberate annoyance of themselves throughout the town and nearby.

These groups who insist they are preserving the enviornment, drove across fragile pristine desert flora, and camped on it.... in an area where the damage will, without restoration, remain for anything up to a century. some of these people, claiming to protect the forests, burnt desert mulga wood wholesale and in one case set their fire up around a small tree!? (did I miss the message there?) Travelling on the swales and not on the dunes (travel on the dune will cause the tracks to be erased next wind or rain as opposed to being virtually permanent) Those leaving in most cases cleaned up after themselves but others left paper, plastic and rubbish all over their area... although some was cleaned up by others it really makes you wonder where their true loyalty/belief is?

The disruption to other peoples livelyhoods and the dangerous methods some adopted to cause disruption..( for instance: throwing rocks at windscreens of passing vehicles from scrub on the side of the road at night, injuring a Police grey (horse) during the protest ) just further entrenches my lack of respect and deep shame for these people.

Any peaceful protest message is destroyed by the shameful behaviour of the others. When will they ever realise that the violent protests may get coverage but very little support due to their behaviour

Unfortunate as it is, many of the people who attach themselves to environmental causes are anarchists who have not a single environmentally concerned cell in their body. They are there to protest and promote anarchy, they leave in their wake the detritis of their true feral nature.

I feel for you and your workmates,those that were arrested and will front the beak, should be sentenced to stay in the area until such times to clean and restore the area that was desacerated and all damage to vehicles restored at their expence,(Ooh! I forgot,these poor unemployed folk have no money, well how did they get there,)--------walk?

The problem with a lot of these people is they are activists and often serial offenders who are not conservationists at all. They are more about confrontation.

I watched the TV footage and in my opinion most of them are just dickheads trying to get involved in something controversial, they probally have no bloody idea what it's all about. Over the years we have seen it all before, Cape Tribulation, Franklin River. There is no doubt some merit in what the protest is about, however it is how they go about it!

I often wonder if it's the 'establishment' that bankrolls these morons to undermine the message of the sincere protesters, who, on the whole, are decent people with an objection to make, who would be equally as upset with the antics of the ferals.

A case in point which infuriates me no end is the proposed wanton destruction of James Price Point in the Kimberley by a cretinous and environmental Philistine WA Premier.

We, as a country/culture critice the Taliban and their vandalism of antiquities and ancient shrines but condone similar uncivilized acts by our own.

Sorry, but I can see the WA Libs financing similar 'protests' to justify their unjustifiable environmental vandalism. It's the way it is.
