Had to endure the reverse from a Mechanic mate recently. Just came back from camping 'up there' in his Prado. Two neighbors went up up the beach in the evening, RR sport and a similarly priced BMW. Both on those ridiculous big shiny rims with a strip of rubber around them....

Several hours later, both returned on foot..... Prado on old fashioned tyres recovered both hopelessly bogged toys...

    He has'nt stopped crowing......

He wasn't bagging our Landys or anything, but it's just another typical case of Toyota brainwashing their customers into believing they have an unstoppable vehicle with good advertising.

We didn't have to say anything after this happened..........actions speak louder than words

on our trip to the cape we were surprised how many of the jap stuff did not attempt anything, taking teh access tracks to watch then access track out.
guess that tells a story in the confidence the owners have in their cars

Yes Ian, but by the time they get home the facts have not gotten in the way of a great yarn. The LR they watched has suddenly transposed into their vechicle. Personally, I'll happily cop their crap in the knowlege that 99.9% of LR owners are fair dinkum people, imagine if we had these clowns in our ranks.

I say perpetuate the myth. Makes it that much sweeter when you come across them broken down.

This guy was blocking a track from Punsand Bay to the Tip. It appeared the whole swivel housing had just disappeared, it was just an easy sandy track................

On our way up, we heard more than once or twice that between 15 and 30 vehicles had been trucked or barged back to Cooktown in the previous couple of weeks (the busy time, QLD holidays) after either drowning in Nolans Brook or otherwise breaking down.

I stayed at a B&B in Mossman on the way back and the woman who ran the place said the local car hire companies had already 'lost' 30 4WDs up the Cape this season. I don't know if they were 'lost' due to driver inexperience, mechanical failure or both.

In a bit of an ironic twist, the truck freighting my Disco back to Sydney from Cairns (we decided to not drive all the way back and spend the time saved relaxing in Cape Trib) has broken down and apparently needs a new gearbox. I'd be interested to find out what make the truck is.

This is one of the biggest advantages of being a 'Land Rover owner'.
I've met some of my closest mates through LROCV and the camaraderie with other members on trips is always fantastic. It's very rare that someone in an LROC convoy is trying to prove that "mine is better than yours". Of course you get a bit of it, but it's usually in a light hearted way.
Also, I've only been in my 4WD accessories business for less than two years and I've dealt with many Land Rover owners as I mainly do Landy stuff. Everyone has been a pleasure to deal with, even if things have'nt gone quite right. The only problems with attitude, non payment etc etc have been from non-Landy owners.
There's a noticeable difference about Landy Owners in general, and it's hard to pinpoint it, but the friendly wave to a stranger in another Landy says a lot.

Murray we heard 36 vehicles at the beginning of the track but it was actually 26 according to the women in the croc tent that talks to the RACQ guy on a daily basis.

still a fair wack of cars though
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
