They changed the design to a replaceable thermistor about 100 units after mine. Apparently they passed on the Danfoss thermistor due to known issues, and designed their own ..... .?

The change was who made them, Engel made the first series, Waeco make the new series, designed to ARB specs.

The thermistor on the early production fridges was sandwiched between the evaporator and case .... Service with an angle grinder.

As I said in an earlier post,AFAIK all Engel fridges have the thermostat reachable by undoing one screw on the rear wall of the fridge, and it can be replaced by undoing the outer case and plug and playing.

This is also true of the entire compressor and evaporator.
Hate to see Engel slandered by association with ARB.

both our engels are over 5 years old and both going still. One was alot older and needed some work but it was from the mines(so it was running all the time).
kev did they give you 3 years warranty with the new fridge?

No Tony .... about 2 weeks of my warranty left. Fridge will get worked for the next two weekends whilst I'm away ...

... however, I still have an implied warranty, in that, it's reasonable to expect, that the new replacement fridge SHOULD last at least 3 years, just like a new one would ... which this one is

If there's a problem in the next 3 years (at least) I have our wonderfull system of consumer protection on my side of the fence ... and being in retail, I know just how it works
