Car mods... has to be a disease.

I just bought a diesel Volkswagen as a town car and swore that I'd not spend a cent on any modifications - the idea was that my Disco would be the modded off roader and as we all know the fourby mods never stop...

So I've had the VW a few days and somehow the EGR fell off, its got a new intercooler and been remapped to buggery. No idea why I decided to as the power was ample stock. Little 2.0TDI in a one tonne car is now making 320 Nm

Anyone else find their cars rarely stay stock for long? Despite the best efforts in restraint

I bought an Isuzu dmax for work as my Rangie could not carry enough gear. Well it needed a canopy to lock up my tools in, someone ran into the back of it which gave me a chance to get a Kaymar bar from the insurance company. Then I decided it needed new suspension, a bull bar and winch, HID lights, a better stereo and the egr valve has a blanking plate. Been toying lately with the need for a Stenbuear module as well. Next on the list is bigger tyres. I know it is not a real 4wd but I need these things just in case.

What yr VW? The Base 2.0 tdi (103kw) is 320nm stock - mild remap lifts to 360-370. We have a 2004 (first Gen 5), there's a lot to like about the car but reliability isn't one. it is by far the most unreliable car I've owned, hope you have a better run. After shelling out another great lump of cash this week to keep it going I'm now looking at replacing it with a BMW 123d (150/400 stock - mild remap go to 185kw & 460nm).

But yes, I agree, mine don't last long stock.

My first car wasn't exactly modified...
I half removed a rear mudflap after an incident involving a dirt road, a drainage ditch and a soon to be dented ego
    Apart from that....
I think the blu tacked watch sans straps on the dash was about as complex as it got, my echo didn't have a clock
The disco on the other hand...
Well...we all now how that panned out

    It's a shame it has been unreliable . It's an '09

This one belonged to my housemate and since new it has never had any problems above and beyond a blown tail light globe and scheduled servicing. Although for some reason badged as a 2.0 its a 77TDI 1.9 (77kw/250Nm). Possibly paid a little OTT for tuning but its the BSR Sweden system delivering 103kW and 323Nm.

EGR isn't removed per se, blanking plate in place. Will also fit a provent in due course.
