    TD5 Disco 2 alternator removal

Trying to remove my alternator ( leaking FPR line above - no charge )

I can't undo the clips on the low vacuum pump drain hose that goes back to the block. They seem to be factory pressed. Anyone had experience with them ?

I could not get a 36mm fan spanner here , and the one I made kept failing. I instead removed the battery box and have managed to get everything else disconnected. I am hoping then to pull the alternator out toward the hole made by the removed battery box. Has anyone done this ok ? Seems a tight fit between the fan blades and the chassis rail.

Oh and the plastic clip that feeds the two wires in. Is there a secret to that ? Thank you David

    Hello David,
When I took my off I used a big screwdriver leaved it off at the engine, then when off, undid it very easy then replaced it back you clip it back together. As for the spanner I welded to bits bits of flat bar measured at 36mm make sure you are turning it the right way as it is left handed thread!!!!
You do not state where you are.

    Thanks Just Fishing,
So you put a blade screwdriver in under the clip and twisting and it expanded / opened ? I don't think I could even get a fine electricians screwdriver between the hose and the clip as it seems factory crimped. I will try that in the daylight.

I have so many directional quotes about normal and reverse thread for these fans. The factory stuff kept coming back to TD5 being standard right hand thread. I never really got to push it. I tried to find some 60mm flat bar at 8mm to grind that , but only got to bunnings and buy thinner stuff which failed/spread. I only had a limited range knowing the battery would die on me.

I had read of others doing it without the fan off and have seemed to have done it as such , if I can get over this last hurdle ( if she comes out through this hole I have made ) .

I am in Palmyra. I have been a member since I think 2008 , but you reminded me to fill in my location. Thanks again. David
