I am currently building myself an off road live-in camper (based on 6x6 defender) that I plan to take through the americas and africa.
I am looking at options for cooking, I intend to do the 'big' meals outside on a bbq/camp fire and have some kind of hot plate/cook top/stove inside (for tins of soup, instant noodles, a couple of rashers of bacon etc etc).
I am reluctant to go with a gas cook top, mainly because of the difficulty getting the gas, the lack of an international standard for fittings and the need for ‘proper’ gas piping, not to mention the extra risk of a live ignition source and potential flammable gas inside the truck.
How good are the 12v hot plates / microwaves that you see around, what is the power draw of these things?
How about an inverter and a 240v induction cook top? Something like this:

My intention is to have solar panels and 1 or 2 deep cycle auxiliary batteries.
I was also considering some kind of emersion heater to warm water - I would wire this to only be on when the engine is running, or something similar.
Anyone any thoughts or experiences of this?
