I might be able to have a sticky beak but if your killing diffs in a Nissan got help those poor rover diffs
Hi all.. hubby is looking to buy a cheap Disco to use as a daily drive and offroading.. his Navara has broken three diffs now so we've decided to give up on it..
There is one in Canberra that he likes but understandably he is hesitant to book a flight based on pictures on the advert. So I am hoping that someone is able to have a quick look at it and pass on their opinion as to whether it is a decent buy or not...
The ad for the car is here - I don't know suburbs in Canberra but presume that 'Canberrians' will know if they are close enough or not to help out..

That would be fantastic! Do you want us to contact the seller and arrange a time or would it be easier for you to call??.. We are happy to cover all expenses (travelling, phone etc)..
Oh and the Navara has a known problem with the front diffs.. (do a google).. this is the third diff and the car is only 3.5 years old.. so hopefully the Rover will fare better.. (we don't do too rough off road stuff)..![]()
Ile give em a call tomorrow and see if I can arrange a time nothing's far away here.
I think from memory those blue "DC" plates mean its registered as a diplomatic car so when you buy it it has no rego.
Might be worth doing some research before you decide to buy as to what you have to do before you drive it home
Yes - that car is owned by a Diplomat (DC = Diplomatic Corp). as a minimum the plates will be have to be changed - but does it matter if it going to Qld where rego will have to be changed over anyway.

You will need a qld inspection any how so it's no biggy just a mater of handing the plates in and getting an interstate permit and driveing it home or possibly driveing it home and posting the plates back to act rta
MOTOR VEHICLES - Protocol Guidelines - Diplomatic, Consular and Other Representation in Australia - Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
Don't want to be a pain but I lived in Canberra for a while trust me it's not that simple buying a vehicle registered with consular plates.
Go to the page above and read section 7.9 the owner has to ask for approval to sell it, pay any duties owing and hand in those plates himself. So just make sure he does all that and reregisters the car as a private vehicle before you drive it away.
The vehicle is more than 3 years old so he may have imported it or bought it here, either way there will be some duty / tax owing that will need to be paid before you can take ownership.
Sorry but I think it's best go into this with your eyes open, the car looks great but don't let your heart over-ride your thinking.
