Can some one shed some light on what is the idea of front mud flaps you see on most trucks and some bush 4wd,s
you know, the ones in front of the front wheels?

i have often wondered the same thing, well now i know thanks gary
there is another very good reason......
Some windscreens breakages a caused by stones being propelled forward from vehicles travelling in the opposite direction.
Similar reason as mud flaps on the front of trailers & trailer mudguards can save the rear windows of the towing vehicle.
I have seen many smashed rear windows (in canopies or rear doors) on vehicles towing trailers which have happened when there is no other vehicle passing. These are from one of 2 causes - (1) stones from the towing vehicle bouncing forward off the trailer and (2) stones being propelled forward from the trailer wheels.
Some trailer/caravan owners go to extraordinary lengths to prevent the first and forget (or are unaware of) the second reason until they break a rear window.
Ah.. you learn something new everyday! I had often wondered why people had the front ones fitted too..![]()
For when you are reversing really really fast![]()
The country utes get more points at the ute muster when they have a nice set of flaps hanging from the four poster.
