EFI VN 5 litre is a good conversion only because it isn't powerful enough to trash the trans as quickly as a LS series engine. There is also a kit to fit it to the ZF auto in the vehicle IIRC, from Marks Adapters.

Cheap HP upgrade.

I have a 1994 disco with a 3.9 litre v8 auto and I am thinking of giving the old girl a transplant. Maybe a complete running gear transplant ie motor gearbox transfer case.
Can anyone advise of any that have been done and what was used
I'm thinking a LS1 or LS2 or EFI Holden v8

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
I agree the 5.0 would be a much easier and neater conversion. I have fitted the chevs to landcruisers and ford f150 and they are physicaly a big motor.
in addition to that, a vn engine etc doesn't require anymore electronics etc.

I'd be inclined to find a factory 355 EFI 215KW engine
An LSx is a far better engine for the conversion, but as adaptors are not readily available its not viable, unless you know a good machinist
They are all good reliable engines though and will transform the vehicle
Don't be put off by the soon to be incoming naysayers that have never personally owned converted vehicles
Oh and no slipped liners![]()
I've never fitted an LS to a ZF, although Dellows make the bellhousing, the LS is still chev pattern (1 bolt does not fit but no issue), but they run the larger ring gear of the chev family and of course different crank PCD and starter bolt location, I've had a hand (mainly wired) LS1's in rovers, but with 4L60e transmissions
In all honesty, a sedate drive with an LS and healthy ZF could live a good long life, with an abusive drivernot so much
But the LS family is well suited to conversions, I've put them in heaps of things, very tuneable, reasonable economy, light weight etc

I remember a short article in a recent 4WD mag commenting that Mark's Adaptors now has an LS adaptor for Discos.
