Texas raise speed limit to 85MPH

Well actually only on a single Toll road at this stage it seems.
Texas raises speed limit to 85 mph: Other states could, too

It doesn't seem that long ago though when the States had the national limit of 55MPH so quite a jump from those days and wasn't that all about saving fuel or something.

Got me thinking what is the highest speed allowed in Oz, do NT still have roads that are unlimited?

    Cheers

    Mark

Yeah but across the US they also don't have a (stupid) separate speed limit for heavy vehicles.

I spent a bit of time in Texas earlier this year and that motorway is exceptional.

...as are most roads in the US.

Which is less than 85 mph.

    As 85mph is 135kph

The only experience of the states was in Hawaii last week and I did 70mph at a push before you have to turn quickly or fall of the island. But the limit there is 70mph on some parts if the motorway.

Yes the max speed limit in the NT is 130kmh. No more unlimited speed there.

In the US, there are actually lower speed limits on some roads, where you can get fined for driving too slow. Good idea I think. Stops people road hogging on motorways.

Last year I drove I80 from Reno NV to Lancaster PA and the speed limit was 80 most of the way. A Highway Patrolman in Wyoming told me they don't enforce below 95 unless there is bad driving involved. The trucks on the interstates seem to get along the same speed as other traffic except in California where the heavies stick strictly to the right hand lane and travel at 55-60 except in LA where they travel on the freeways at traffic speed.

Some state roads in Nevada don't have speed limits.

The roads are very good but the locals complain about them.

Sure beats our freeway limits of 90, 100, or 110km/h (56, 62, 68 mph). Exceed those and one is worse than a mass murderer.
