One for the fridgies

Well, I've just picked the Rangie up from my indie. I should survive, I'm told we only need one kidney.
It's had a new water pump, thermostat, belt tensioner, belts and transmission cooler.
While there the transmission got a birthday present.
On the way home, the air con got warmer and hotter. Once home, there was no condensation puddle under the car, as is usual.
I'm suspecting the gas has escaped. My question is, how do I trace the source of the leak, so I can decide if the repair is within my scope of practice?
I realise I will have to pay a professional to regas it.

I don't think it'll make much difference, Steve. As long as you have good airflow, you should be good to go.

If it’s had tracer fluid added you should be able to detect the leak with a UV light

The only tracer fluid i have used is the couloured red one but you have to access the system to add that & I suppose Tombie's suggestion would be the same but have never used the UV one but it sounds about right. The question I would be asking is what did "they" need to remove that might cause them to dump the gas?: ie. if they did then you might be chasing your tail looking for a leak. Maybe they did for access or summat. Just try & make sure if you can that they hi- vacuum the system. That'll be $150 notes thanks, I don't take cards only cash.[bigrolf]

So. a simple daily service then?[bigrolf]

Have a very good look at the wiring,maybe they have bumped an electrical plug on a pressure switch or something?


Anyway if all else fails,there is some gear over here that may sort it,or at least pin point the leak.

As for dye,have never used the stuff,and we always find the leaks.Although we don't do any auto air.
In fact,the latest electronic leak detectors are that good,it virtually makes any type of dye redundant.

Had a quick sqizz, couldn't see anything obvious. Hopefully tomorrow will be dry and I can see better out in the daylight.

Good, as I have used the last in my knapsack weed sprayer & it seems to bee an Oil based stuff (??), it didn't work there much either.

Maybe Santa will bring a new age electronic leak detector?

On another subject,i saw this guy last week[biggrin]

Dunno how he gets those bottles up onto the roof,maybe with the help of a bamboo scaffold?

Simples. Tie a thin rope around the neck of the bottle with said neck facing down to ground supported by a couple of bricks, open valves fully & run like **** as far as your little legs will carry you. Join your cylinders on the roof & start work. Easy ****.


There again, he may be working in a Ground Floor Plant room.[bighmmm]

A better way to keep all your **** together. Upend the trolley complete with it's load then open ALL valves & run like old ****ery. It could be a bit quicker.
