The first vehicle I actually owned (jointly with my brother) was not exactly a Kombi, but the VW one ton pickup. A 1955 model. Last with the opening windscreen I think. I traded it on a 1956 Series 1 at the beginning of 1963, mainly because the VW did not stand dusty roads.

I wish! A rusted out split which will need full restoration goes for A LOT! Upwards of 10k for a rusty hulk, can go up to 80k in good condition.
Mine is the bay window shape rather than the split. Love the splits and yes, the 60's (and 70's) are great no matter what you drive.
