Stake warning.

In travels over my lifetime I have some across people who have built fences across public roads, installed robust gates complete with padlocks, even grown sugar cane on a gazetted public road. Not yet come across booby traps though unless you count stringing wire across to deter and maybe injure trail bikers.

In the early 1970's a copper I knew was transferred to a one man post in an outer rural area of Brisbane. This is now a heavily built up suburb. in his first few days there a rather hillbilly type local came in and handed over a hand written note. This, he said, was his weekly list of vehicle numbers and times that used "his" road with no valid reason for doing so. The road was a dead end that led to the guy's farm. He had being doing this for years apparently and had the idea that police would check all the rego numbers and ask the owners why they were in this guy's road. Well, it is said it takes all kinds.

Mighty dangerous for horses and the local wildlife. :mad:

I had a situation like this, I was setting up a training activity for my CFS brigade at the end of a dead end tarmaced public road because there was a nice patch of scrub there (public land). I was approached by an owner of the house at the end of the road and explained what i was doing. Later that night I had 2 policemen at my door asking what i was doing...they seemed happy with my reason and left me alone. The next day I had a call from the lady's son apologising for his mother's 'over-developed sense of her own mortality'..

Not knowing the area it might be a bit of a stretch to imagine Firefighting authorities would not be too happy about losing truck tyres going in to put out a scrub fire.

I was reffering to the part i quoted about expecting police to check rego numbers more than devices left to intentionally damage vehicles. But i agree I dont think that the authority would be happy losing tyres.
