    Greatest Guitarists of all time

Theres been many great guitar players out there, who stands out the most for you.

I have my top 10, but for me Rory Gallagher is at the top, I only watched him play live twice and that was amazing such a shame hes no longer with us. Clapton I have seen 4 times, his ability to play the intro to money for nothing with 2 strings broken on his Gibson and it sounded no different was something else even Mark Knoffler was Impressed.

    Top 10?
    Very well

    1. David Gilmour.
    2. Stevie Ray Vaughn.
    3. Eric Clapton. (seen once)
    4. Jimi Hendrix
    5. Jimmy Paige.
    6. Mark Knopfler
    7. Santana (seen once)
    8. Prince
    9. Eddie Van Halen
    10. Frank Zappa maybe? (He's dead, but I've seen Dweezil )

Solos from comfortably numb never fail to amaze me.

    Angus Young?
    Really?
Some of Prince's more technical work blows Angus Young into first year guitar lessons.
However it depends on what makes these people that we're listing great
    Popularity?
    Technical ability?
    Or a mixture?
Angus Young (IMHO) is a pretty average guitar player, albeit a very successful one.
Check out Princes solo in "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" in the George Harrison tribute concert Mindblowing stuff.

    The nine-fingered Phil Keaggy:

Michael Hedges. He looks like across between Flea and a 'tard but that doesn't matter:

    That's very subjective argument.
If you're a blues purist, then EC wins.
Gilmour wins for melodic invention though.
I think technically Gilmour is better, at least in his understanding of what his instrument is capable of
I do love Eric though, White Room is such a brilliant song

As a player, i have to agree, Gilmour without a doubt, AND Tommy Emmanuel, AND Joe Walsh.

For me, it's not about how many notes per second you can rip of (although Tommy has blistering speed when he turns it out), but more about "how" you play those notes .... These three guys can say more with less.

Exactly, that's why I didn't include people like Steve Vai (******, i've met him he's a tosser ) and Joe Satriani, and I had to think hard about putting Van Halen on it
Joe Walsh was another close runner up
And Tommy Emmanuels "The Journey" is another personal favourite.
I think I might have to edit my original list to put Gary Moore in there, probably at number 5, knocking them all down a post.
I mean..."Still got the blues" and even stuff like "Parisian Walkways" is simply fantastic, what you said about saying more with less rings true to those, particularly still got the blues

    Cheers
    Muppet
