NSW - CTP for defender - wackydo it's expensive!

It's rego renewal time. I thought the existing quote of $540 ish was high so i did a greenslip comparison from the NSW Gov't sponsored greenslip web site. The quotes came back for 12 months cover: $751 was the cheapest and $972 the most expensive from the 7 insurers licensed to sell CTP insurance in NSW. 6 insurers were in excess of $900.

Am i missing something or has the world got real expensive overnight?

What are NSWelshman paying for their CTP insurance on a defender?

Have you looked to see if you are being charged as a commercial vehicle. I had this problem with my defender with the toll tage.

I had to do a lot of explaing to get it changed to passenger vehicle.

As Defenders do not have airbags etc there is something about them being commercial vehicles so they can be imported/registered on Australian roads.

    Just an idea, good luck.

Thanks for the heads up. I changed the criteria to motor vehicle it changed the quotations. Cheapest was $580, most expensive $746. Again 6 insurers above $700. The rego papers have it classed as "PVF" which is 4wd passenger vehicle. The greenslip comparison web page only permits "motor vehicle", "Ute/commercial" or "motor cycle". No option for 4wd passenger vehicles.

Might be a case of the old telephone contact to control the use of the information and negotiate better terms.

Still doesn't change the fact that vehicle ownership is an expensive exercise. I get the impression that the government is pushing up the cost of ownership so it influences people to downsize from 2 cars to 1 car or move to PT. It certainly isn't going into maintenance of roads and improvement of transport infrastructure.

My QLD is $323 per year or $340 over the year if you pay half yearly.

Yes things are getting dear, but CTP is supposed to be for our protection and those we might hit. So are there more claims on the insurance or are the insurance companies using this to make money to cover claims on other insurance they sell.

    Just a thought

I payed $315 for my 650cc last year and just bought a BMW 800cc and the green slip is $550 for that one. I guess it depends on your age etc.
