    posible scam

As some may know I have decided to sell my gorgeous MY08 SE TDV6 D3. There is an add on this forum and other websites for such things.

    Anyway . . .

have placed a couple of adds for this as you do with the major websites that deal with car sales and other things . . .

However after placing the last one and won't mention the name of the website I got hit with 2 texts from people saying they were interested in the vehicle and to email them the price and details. Odd as the adds have all of that info.

One was from a +44 country code UK, the other a +20 Eygpt, really?

Anyway I did email the UK person with the link to this add. He came back wanting to pay by paypal, sight unseen and wanting the address so his shipping agent could pick it up.

    Uh ohhh me thinks.

Told him sorry but no paypal, bank cheque or bank deposit only. Vehicle would then be taken to the shipping agent.

    Have not heard back.

Obviously this is some sort of a scam. Anyone know if it, how it works etc? Thinking of notifying the AFP about it.

    Thoughts? Experinces?

The scam works by them sending you a fake PAYPAL receipt, you then send your car/truck/caravan to them (via a shipping agent), you have no money in PAYPAL, and they get your truck for bugger-all.
Well done for not being sucked in.

surely people check their paypal account first and only provide the vehicle when the funds are actually sitting in their bank account???

they can reach back into your bank account via paypal depending on your settings and setup.

you would want the money in another bank account...

I was on the understanding that bank cheques also need time to clear - same as normal cheques, so only definite ways to be certain you have been paid is direct deposit or cash.

Have a look at the price of Land Rovers in the UK. There is no one there who will pay the Australian price. Yes it was a scam.

Most adds now say: phone or email; texts will be ignored.
