A couple who haven't made your list, but would make it into my top 10, and are probably under-rated by many:
Grinspoon
Thirsty Merc - Fronted by Rai Thistlethwaite, who is a very talented musician in his own right.
The recent thread on the greatest guitarists got me thinking about who I would rate as the greatest Australian bands.
So, here goes (all my opinions)
1. AC/DC
While I may not put their technical ability amongst the rarified atmosphere, there is absolutely no denying that overall, they're the best band to come out of Oz.
2. INXS
Nuff said. Fantastic talent, and a song for every occasion. Well...maybe not every occasion but lots of them
3. Midnight Oil
Possibly one of my favourite bands of all time, "Blue Sky Mine" would easily be in my 10 favourite songs. I know a lot of people think less of Peter Garrett after he became a pollie, but he's still a fantastic musician and probably the greatest dancer to ever seizure his way across the dance floor![]()
4. Cold Chisel.
Who hasn't slurred the words to one of chisels songs after a night on the turps? And if you don't know the words to "Khe Sanh" you're not a fair dinkum 'strayan
lol
5. The Angels.
As with Cold Chisel, we ALL know the proper response to "Am I ever gonna see your face again?" hahaha.
6. Powderfinger.
Great band, not one of my favourites but undeniably good music.
7. Silverchair.
Similar to powderfinger, some brilliant songs.
8. Men at Work
**** it, it's catchy and everyone knows it.
9. Mental as Anything.
Road to Nowhere perfectly describes long distance touring
10. Hoodoo Gurus
My dad has their lead guitarists Gretch
But really, What is my team?
Some close runners up were the Divinyls, Eskimo Joe, Icehouse, Australian Crawl, LRB, Skyhooks, Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs (english born, I know), Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, The Living End, The Easybeats, etc.
I deliberately left out Crowded House as they're a Kiwi band
Love them thought, seen the Funn brothers twice.
So, opinions?
Cheers

In no particular order of preference, Hoodoo Guru's, INXS, AC/DC, Chisel, Screeming Jets, Angels....

T.I.S.M.
Paul Kelly (ok, usually a solo musician...)
Hobbs' Angel Of Death (watching them a few months ago was like stepping into an early 80s thrash concert, haven't changed a bit since their one album was released)
Alchemist
Beasts of Bourbon
The Birthday Party
/
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Skyhooks and Cold Chisel for me.
Dave.
I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Cosmic Physcos
+1 for T.I.S.M.
There's also a new band on the scene called Airbourne, I think they have a big future.
