We have tried booking all the way from Lakeland and Palmer River to Laura, not a hope of a camp site. But then I guess it would be wall to wall campers anyway.
We will be one of many groups just bush camping where we can. Theres lots of decent places not far off the Mulligan.
We might even go out to Maytown. Have always wanted to spend a night in an abandoned mining town.
    Cheers, Rick.

Here's a pic that was posted today on the Pentax forum by Aussie Trev.

Again thanks heaps. It is only because my daughters new son arrived 5 weeks early that we were in North Queensland for the eclipse. Lucky hey.

I was one of the lucky ones. Just south of the Palmer River Roadhouse with a mob of high school students.

I have to say that it was way better than I expected. As the light faded, if you turned with your back to the sun the ground had a shimmy across it (like a heat haze above a fire only in shadow form on the ground). The temp dropped as semi darkness enveloped us with stars visible overhead. The horizon showed like a sun set. The sensation was heightened by the audible reaction of the students. There was so much to take in it seemed only seconds and semi darkness was over (not the two + minutes).

    Cheers
