If you are in Cairns, you are ideally placed for the forthcoming solar eclipse.

Yep, Lakeland or a bit further south towards where the line crosses the Mulligan Hwy (as long as there is a view to the east) would be my best guess - there would be a good chance of cloud obscuring it for viewers along the coast.
Looks like the local tourist industry is making the most of it - hope there aren't to many hopefuls disappointed by the probable cloud cover .....

I have heard some of the planning of emerg resource allocation.
There are currently about 15000 pre booked campers on properties from mareeba to lakeland
I reckon the hopeful masses will be here no matter the cloud base!

I think I will just walk out the backyard and have a look![]()
I'll be driving a busload up the day before and camping Palmer River area. Will be paid to view it as well.
Tough I know but someone has to do it.
I'm planning on watching it from my bed, as we look out over the coral sea. Unfortunately I then have to head into town to work. Good thing it is an early eclipse. If there is cloud cover along the coast, lots of people will be disappointed.
They are very dramatic in the middle of the day. Animals start to get ready for the night.
It will be my 3rd viewing of a total eclipse in 50 years. Lucky I move around a lot!!
Cheers,
Ken
Am going to give the photography a go. The last eclipse I saw (experienced) was a long time ago.
Not sure whether the crowds will be more entertaining. As far as I know after we unload the buses we are let loose until we load up eclipse afternoon. Either way should be a blast.
Cheers
