    Thumbs up bullbars.

Lots of posts about bullbars recently.
Last night I was roadie for dads band, so heading home about 1am loaded up with band stuff.
Accelerating up to 100km/h, and a mid sized kangaroo hopped into my path.
Instinctively I hit the brakes, and even with discs that are on their last legs the D2 pulled up sharpish.
Not sharpish enough unfortunately for skippy.
Impacted the lower left wing of the ARB bar, then went under the wheels.
No damage to the track rods, steering arm etc.
Slightly cleaner patch on the bar from where the dirt rubbed off.
As much as I really don't like ARB, it's a big thumbs up for the bar.
Not a mark on it for a heavy impact at high speed.
ARB Steel bar gets my vote.
    Cheers

Yes I have had 2 roo strikes at about 70kph and on both cases there was zero damage to the bar and the car. Both were with steel ARB bars. Saved me a lot of hassle and money.

i have had 2 big roo hits and a cow hit on my arb bar.....you wouldnt know it had taken such big hits.....I have had it removed and new mounting bolts fitted just cause I was concerned of shear factor. There was little shear and this is mostly due to ARB'S close tolerance fitup leaving very small movement even before the bolts are tightened.

Thanks Muppet, my new D2 has an ARB Safari Bar fitted. Where I live animal strikes are a regular occurance once you leave town. It's good to know I might have some decent protection.
My D1 has an Xrox bar. It has two kills to it's credit without a mark.
Most of the animal strikes up here are at highway speeds due to the distances between towns. A good bar is a good investment.
After a the good results from the Xrox on the D1 I was considering putting one on the D2 (it came with the ARB Safari Bar) but I might just hold off on that. Besides, it looks pretty, it's colour coded, lol.
    Cheers, Rick.

I'm thinking I might do the same when I take it off to put the winch on.
Noticed the other day there's still a bit of rotation, despite having the vertical holes drilled. Might check all the bolts when the winch goes on.

They're a nice piece of kit
The only thing I don't like is that they don't have the loops near the headlights.
    And the price tag

whn fitting the bar press use a press or tie back once you have the bolts in to pretension the bar rearwards prior to torquing down the bolts...

If youve pretensioned rearwards avoid where practicle using the bar hooks to recover from. If you do recover from the bar its prudent to slacken the bolts, replace the lock washers and then preload and then retension the bar.

I don't recover from my bar, I've got Philco recovery points
But cheers, I'll try it when I put the winch on.
It doesn't really bother me, as it's only very slight.
But it would be nice to have it not move
