Ah the mud i my head is becoming clearer. So I source a roto filter off a transit 2.4 and whack it on defender 2.4.
Might go up the road to the Ford dealer and see if I can get a pic and price as a start point.

Yes that is one option, if ford sells the 2.4 transit in AU?
Wreckers may be a cheaper option.

A 3rd option is an aftermarket kit from MANN+HUMMEL, like Bush65 has purchased.

Toyota trucks had a centrifugal filter about 30 + years ago (6000 series)? When it stopped wistling time to clean out about 10 mm of crud from the housing could be adapted easily from memory

If you can take one off of a Transit engine then UK scrap yards would be my first point of call. Thousands of transit vans over there, bound to be cheaper than here.

Ive been searching the net and cant find anything. Only the filters for them.

Im wondering if there would be enough room under the bonnet for one?

Are the workings for the filter still there for the unit to bolt into?

yes found the same. Sent an email to a UK online ford parts supplier and asked if a roto filter housing, and plumbing off a Transit is available. And if can be fitted to a Defender motor. I don't think they will know much about a Defender but will see how we go.
When or if they reply I'll see if I can get an exploded view or where it fits.

something else here, appears they give trouble similar to the Td5 rotor cover if overtightened
