Hopefully they have sorted out the timing belt cover problem in the later models.
Mate of mine is a heavy diesel mechanic....mainly assembles new mining equipment though. He owns a mixed fleet, a couple of LCs (with trays and hoists fitted) and an Amarok.

He loves the thing and stated that he'd forgotten how good Euro diesels are and if VW made a bigger truck, the LCs would be gone too.

MB have a twin turbo diesel in their C Class range that is slightly larger and produces 155kw and 510Nm. Now that's impressive.

BMW have gone one better and thrown in a 3rd turbo in the X5

"Under the bonnet of this SUV is a new 280 kW six-cylinder, in-line diesel engine with M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology, which BMW claims is the most powerful volume-produced six-cylinder diesel engine in the world.
The 3.0-litre engine's unique triple turbocharging technology delivers a whopping 740 newton metres of torque in the 2000 to 3000 rpm range, and its maximum power of 280 kilowatts is reached between 4000 and 4400 rpm.

It all adds up to fantastic performance for a vehicle that weighs in at close to 2.2 tonnes. Its sprint from standstill to 100 kmh is just 5.4 seconds and it is capable of keeping on accelerating to a top speed of 250 kmh"

I will be interested to see how these small capacity highly strung engines go after 200k of being flogged by tradies and the like, i think you will be up for a lot of $$$ in maintenance and parts.

Is an underpowered engine any more likely to survive any better....? Isn't being underpowered a criticism of some LR engines? And other brands I might add.

In fact...being flogged by people who lease or use company vehicles and may not give a damn can kill just about anything....

    Time will tell I guess.

I know, I heard about this a few months ago....that's seriously impressive for an oiler....well for a lot of engines.

However, a MB C250 sedan is pretty much a run of the mill car.....you're talking about a monster...

Love the Journo's quote "and is capabale of accelerating to a top speed of 250kmh".....bit hard to get there if you aren't accelerating.....LOL!!!

Standard C250 CDI is speed limited to 235 in AUS.....btw.

    Cheers,

    Kev.
