Wow...blast from the past! I had completely forgot about them! All I remember is my dad had one (along with a series 2 Landy) when I was a little kid. Vague memory at that...
The last time I used one was in the late 60s. Working in a timber yard in Campbelltown in December and January, that was our source of drinking water down the back of the yard.
The last time I saw one was in Alice Springs in the late 80s. A motorcycle rider travelling down the Stuart Highway had one suspended above the rack on the back of the bike. A tube fitted to the waterbag allowed him to have a cool drink without stopping. I thought that was a clever idea.
Both were the same size as everyone else's.

We always had the verandah bag hanging under the pergola as well as a water bag on the ute or the tractor. They are so refreshing to drink from
and the water tastes great of them too! We found that in recent years the quality of hessian deteriorated and the bags would rot out.
The downside with a water bag in the bush is you need a good supply of water as they go through it!
Back in the sixties some cars had a special chromed bracket fitted to the front bumper for the water bag to hang from.
Cheers, Mick.

I am still missing something here. I looked at the link to Wiki on wagon wheel s and I still can't see the relevance to water bags
