Canvas water bags

Talking about bags to hold liquid IMHO the best version is the bota for Spain.
Its purpose is not to hold water but a good quality vino :D
They are good, they do not leak.
The good ones are made using the skin of a goat and I wonder if there is a bag version of them to use instead of canvas bags.

I've got a waterbag I bought about eight years ago. I forgot I had it! Thanks for the reminder. Now, if only it would hold water . . .

Probably because the H2O had evaporated.
I used them for years in the early 70's & can say that they're one of the most water wasting gizmos ever built as they rely on the water they're holding to evaporate to keep it cool :confused: :confused:

I used water bags up until the early 1980's on my series rovers. Living out Mt.Isa area in those days and a water bag was a must. They all leaked a little and they were designed to do that so the evaporation cooled the water inside. hanging on the bullbar was the best position, that way you didn't get the bulldust on it. Nothing like the canvas taste of a water bag. You just filled it up every river crossing you came to.

When I worked in western NSW I always had one on the Bullbar of the panel van and filled it up from the tanks of the customers I would visit. Placement on the Bullbar is not ideal with modern vehicles as they evaporate the contents very quickly at 110Km/H and 35+ degrees

The number plate was relocated to suit the water bottle.....

Forgive me for saying, but canvas water bags were really designed for saddles, on pack horses. The water evaporated, and kept the contents coolish. To be filled up at water holes or from the water containers on camels. Not meant to be the main source of water. Bob

Could never get over the taste. Chucked the bag out in the end and went with an insulated plastic jug. Cooler and no funny taste.

People are forgetting that the canvas bags are superseded by the wine casks bladders :D
