    Wholesale/discount oils prices in Sydney?

It's time to do a once over of all the fluids in the 110. I'm trying to avoid buying the oils from Repco or Supercheap where they sell small containers at inflated prices for the non-regular viscosity oils. It quickly adds up.

Any recommendations where to buy motor oils in Sydney at wholesale/discounted prices.

Supercheap sell 20l containers (eg Castrol RX Super), which when on "special", are at prices as cheap as an individual buyer can get anywhere else (last time I bought some it was $90 for 20l).

Other specialized fluids that Supercheap do not handle in 20l drums (e.g. Castrol antifreeze & Syntrans) I buy at the BP depot and while cheaper than buying small containers at Supercheap or Repco they are hardly at "wholesale" prices.

You can buy Gulf Western oils fairly cheap.
And no matter what brand you buy,if you buy it it little bottles, you will pay more.
Buy it in 20Lt drums/bottles and you will save.
That is how I buy the Penrite that I use.

Not Sydney and not a Defender but the experience is probably relevent. I bought a 20 litre drum of the approved Castrol oil for my D3 from the Castrol Agent in Yass recently and it cost me about $240.00. This does not represent much of a discount from the likes of supercheap etc but it is the smallest container you can buy the oil in. ( Magnatec Professional a5 5w-30)

From my experience in buying lesser oils for the tractor I find that they are about $5.00 cheaper than Supercheap who do sell 20 litre drums so there are no great savings to be made.

I've just checked out the price with Supacrap of 20ltr drums of Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w - 30 A5 B5 for the Puma and got quoted 347 bucks!!!!
The Mobil distributor in Welshpool quote approx 20 bucks less than that. Not much difference taking into consideration travelling etc.
At that price it won't be getting changed at 5K intervals as all my other diesels have.

It makes you wonder if the LR dealer or local mechanic is going to put in the correct spec oil if (1) they don't stock it for whatever reason (2) it's cost prohibitive to be offering exotic blends to their customers.

My regular mechanic said that 15w40 was suitable and all that is required for the TD5. The service manual says 5w30 or 5w40. There is $20 difference for 10 ltr drum between the 15w and 5w.

Quoting Rick130 "not all oils are the same".

I wanted to do the correct thing for the old girl. You are right ATH, a short service interval becomes expensive. Oh well, best to suck it up to save a possible engine rebuild.
