    garden irrigation

    hi all
    i bought a couple of ibs tanks (those white ones with a cage on) to keep a new hedge watered during the predicted hot summer.
    there is no pump on them and i dont intend to use one, just the water pressure in the tank.
    I left a soaker hose on one tank all night and there was not enough pressure to let any water out.
    any ideas what best to use, each tank will be doing about a30m run.
    have seen a brown hose pipe type pipe with holes in down at bunning and there is a green flat soaker hose pipe.

    How about a wobble tee sprinkler, they run really well from a tank.

    and maybe a battery powered timer to turn it off and on.

    The other question I have is did you leave the lid loose so that air could get in the top of the tank?

    dont think a wobbly tee will be any good as its a straight run, never thought about leaving the lid loose will try that, thanks

    Hi Ian,

    I know you don't want to use a pump, but with such low pressure it will be difficult to get an even flow across the length of the hedge

    We use a small 12v pump for weed killing off the back of the quad. Works well but I am not sure if this has enough flow for the soaker. Just hook up to a battery. Leave it for an hour or so and check the battery.

    This should theoretically empty your tank in 4 hours.

    There is a dripline available for gravity feed. Looks like the usual pre-inserted brown stuff, but is coloured green instead.

    Not sure how well or consistent it works though.

    forum gathering at your place, you supply the beer (best results use 4xgold)
    should give the hedge a nice watering enough for the next night in a months time.

    I suggest that you try one of those green spray hoses they weep quite nicely off of a tank. If one section is weeping too much just lift it up on a piece of old timber to level the hose out.

    AKA soaker hose

    It comes down to how permanent the installation is. The green soaker hose is easy to move around and packs down.

    That green flat hose only lasts 12months in the sun.
    Have you looked at purous hose,it weeps all of its length.

    Shouldn't matter if you cover it (and the area to be watered) with mulch. This dramatically helps lessen evaporation and inhibits weed growth.
