Separate chassis redundant: Land Rover |*CarAdvice
"Land Rover has confirmed the separate-chassis will be made reduntant in its passenger car range, as the company moves towards making monocoque designs perform as capably off road..."
Sounds like the Defender replacement will still have a chassis.
"...Waide concedes that aluminium isn’t yet economically viable to engineer into Land Rovers that cost less than the Range Rover Sport and ‘Vogue’....."
Let's hope they're liberal with the use of aluminium in the Discoveries, otherwise a monocoque steel Discovery sounds a lot like a Pajero.
The Range Rover has been running a monocoque since 2002 and performs well off road, but I get your point, not sure how long a monocoque would hold up to continued abuse off road compared to a chassis....
