Most importantly, do we get a chocolate?![]()
I know LR owners are an erudite bunch (unlike those with Toyotas) so I thought this little spelling game might interest some. You have to make as many words as possible in three minutes, using the letters randomly supplied.
I've been using it with students and the results were interesting. I had a go myself and got 32 on my first attempt and thought that was pretty good, but then a boy knocked up 53 and I had to give him a chocolate for what I thought was a top effort. The next day a girl did 72 and I gave her a chocolate and thought no-one would beat that, but sure enough, today another girl did 90! (that's 30 words a minute or one every two seconds!)
These efforts are particularly good because all the students mentioned are former refugees from Burma who have only been in this country for 3-5 years and English is their third, fourth or, in one case, fifth language, so how good is that!
Anyway, feel free to take the challenge and see if you can beat the former refugee teenagers (and me).
Click start, click the letters of your word so they go into the box, click submit and, if correct, the word will appear in the box at left.

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

This has already cost me three chocolates, so feel free to buy yourself a chocolate if you beat 90.
Incidentally, the same girl had another go today and only managed 43, so maybe she lucked an easy set of letters.
How can you tell how many words you have found?.. I can only see the point amount at the end (111)..I didn't realise you were a TEFL teacher. I went and did a couple of courses to get my cert for it a couple of years so I could help teach English while I was in China..
PS.. this game is addictive.. as if I don't already waste enough time on the internet..![]()
15, 40,91,16 and 61.
the letters make all the difference. if you get the letters that let you easily make plurals you can rack up the points you get more points for longer words. it also accepts some names.

It is addictive, isn't it.
91 is a very good score.
Yes, I teach ESL at a high school. One-third of our students speak a language other than English at home, so welcome to multicultural Australia.
Incidentally, I'm afraid the bar has been raised. The year 8 student who I mentioned before managed 110 words in three minutes today. She's obviously a budding genius and has left me behind. Its fantastic for someone who was in a refugee camp four years ago.
110 words or points?

Sorry, I should have said the score is in points.
Incidentally, my little genius now has her score up to 114, and one of my fellow-teachers has done 120.
Left me well behind...![]()
