I love my D4 and having spent some time out with a mates new Jeep Grand C, I can say the D4 is far better in this environment. The jeep is capable though and for a weekend run perfectly ok. It is exceptional value for money though! I can't see landrover ever doing a D4 in the $60K range. For goodness sake an evoque is $80K.

If they build the next Defender on the Disco's platform (as is reported), but keep the price down to the $50-60k range, it could be a great choice.

Price is the reason my father got a Jeep GC not a D4:( , although he ignored me and others and got a petrol as well.There was a time when the disco used to be a similar price to a GC but a base model laredo diesel sells for 50k and a limited for 66k compared to a base model disco at 76k which is the price for the top model overland GC

The jeep does indeed offer very compelling opposition - except if you need the space that a D4 offers. If your space requirements are only RRS sized which I suspect is the case with a lot of new market D4 buyers then it makes for a worthy opponent.

I think the Pajero was the first 4wd with all independent suspension, but since the D3 came along all manufactures are going the 4wheel independent suspension and they all have some sort of "terrain response" system now. ACE was on LR long before Toyota came out with there "active" suspension
In the past the D3 was "questioned" about all of its electronic / computer systems but why have all the other manufactures followed suite?
The original can be copyied but never equaled!

Seriously I am a passionate Land Rover owner, but as I have said else where the new Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland diesel model is bloody amazing for it's price and excellent to drive.
To compare, a standard option diesel Overland that retails for around 75k drive away has pretty much all of the same bells and whistle as a the limited edition 2012 D4 HSE Luxury model that retails for around 120k.
Plus it has an e-diff standard and quite a number of electronic safety qizmo's including adaptive cruise control that isn't even an option on a D4.
About the only thing it doesn't have is the centre consol cool box. ...:eek:
Still for now we will be sticking with the D3 which does the job very well.

Actually, LR does advertise in Overlander, but I think Toyota would spend more money with it.
