    True or false?

This is General Chat and not so serious, so which of the following do you think are true?

    1. Dolphins sleep with one eye open all the time.
    2. Chewing gum while peeling onions will keep you from crying.
    3. The average new-born baby spends 113 minutes a day crying.
    4. To find out if a mosquito is male or female, let it land on you. If it bites, its female.
    5. Just before you are struck by lightning the hair on your head will stand on end.
    6. A python can go for as long as a year without eating.
    7. Finland was the first country to have a female member of parliament.
    8. People in Iceland are listed by their first names, not their surnames, in telephone directories.
    9. If you measure the distance around an elephant's foot and double it, you will know its approximate height.
    10. You can generally tell if a person is right-handed or left-handed by which foot they put into their trousers first.

    So, whattayourekon?

Stands to reason then, if you use hair gel to hold your hair down, you wont get hit by lightning

Island pronounced ees-lahn (Iceland to you non-Scandinavians) still uses the patronymic system of naming and yes, the telephone listing is by first name. Denmark went to using a continuing family name by royal decree in 1828.

"9" is true. Double the forefoot (print) circumference gave height at the shoulder. Generally bigger elephants gave bigger ivory, and with sometimes days of tracking required to catch up to and shoot just one elephant a hunter didn't want to waste time following an individual with small ivory. Over time, such was the selection pressure on elephants from hunting that the relationship between footprint size and ivory bagan to disappear, and some of the biggest ivory was carried by small-footed elephants who hunters didn't bother to track.
Of course these days they are poached from helicopters with RPG's and AK-47's and everything, big or small, is taken.

Well, I know number 8 is true as it caught me out the first time I went there. Mind you, it made it very easy to look up my mate as he was the only 'Darren' in the whole of Iceland!!

Do you really want to know the answers, or would you rather be kept in suspenders a little while longer?
