"petty over moderating"
hmm
sometimes maybe
as a general rule these days, i would beg to differ and it is something that is constantly brought up and reviewed.
sometimes it is warranted when the mood needs resetting.
as a general rule, people are warned about the swearing rules and infractions for dodging the filters etc etc and reminded that the need to read the conditions of access again.
and yes there are exceptions to that rule as well.
people need to remember the moderating team are volunteers and it is an acquired "art" and the people that do it do pay a price for doing it.
i don't know too many people that can straight up handle managing 10000+ users on a forum, god knows it has taken me years to hear some pennies drop... and the many of the mods dont m9ind firing one over my bow as well from time to time.
except for specific club areas the mods tend to be self moderating and can be their own harshest critics at times..
the bottom line is they try to implement the rules as i have laid them out.
i try to make the rules as flexible as possible, but there are certain guidelines that i wont step outside of.

Yes you can.
No-one is stopping you.
You can argue politics or sling mud until you are blue in the face if that is what you want to do. There are plenty of places where you can be as obnoxious as you like.
You just can't do it here.
You have been told why, but you seem to be so focussed on what you want to do that you seem to have difficulty appreciating the problems other people had to deal with when the sort of "debate" you want was permitted.

Is it possible to subscribe without using paypal, which I don't use? I don't see an option for that - maybe I missed it.
I took this thread as looking for direction on features / sections / way to improve the existing user experience on Land Rover discussion.
NOT whether mods are doing a good job, or whether the forum should change it's rules and G rated policies. I say those decisions are for the forum owner/manager/mods. Of course some feedback is welcome, but that's about changing the behavior or the forum users, not the forum itself. If more than a majority of members are happy with the rules, then they don't need to be changed to improve the forum.
Fine by me. Inc's house, Inc's rules apply. That's what you had to do in your mum and dad's place in the good old days of politeness. You wanted to scream at someone you had to do it to their face, and not hide behind a keyboard.
Just to add my few cents worth, (I hadn't been on here for 6 months or so, due to work schedule and a few weeks of illness) I don't see anything that could be changed for the better, other than adding another Ron or two to have a go at spelling and grammar![]()
How important in reducing the load on the server is the 20 delay between searches?
As someone who occasionally accidentally double clicks on "New Posts" or who sometimes while trying to do several things at once forgets that I clicked on it 5 seconds before, I find it a minor inconvenience.
When you were fine tuning something a year or two ago and reduced the delay, I noticed and appreciated the convenience.
However, I have lived with it for a long time and can continue to do so if it has some benefit.

Just a better built in search function. I get zillions of irrelevant hits for every search. I'm not a forum technical dude so I don't know why - I often wonder if its the information in the user signature lines that gets hits?
That's the only improvement I would suggest. I know you can use google to search Aulro, that's what I do most of the time now, but it would be great to do it from within the site.
Cheers,
Adam
