Quite right. It would be a pretty dull campfire if the best people could do is repeat the same old boring criticisms of their elected representatives.

Sourpusses whose only contribution to the conversation is to complain about some politician don't exactly sound like the life and soul of the party.

I take it the necessary kit to take to a campfire chat with you fellows is a nulla. [ just to change the subject of the campfire convesation]. Bob

ps, for those who don't know

    Jump to:
A Waddy, nulla nulla or hunting stick is an Aboriginal Australians - war club. The former name comes from the Dharuk Aborigines of Port Jackson -
A waddy is a heavy club constructed of carved timber. Waddies have been used in hand to hand combat, and were capable of splitting a shield, and killing or stunning prey. In addition to this they could be employed as a projectile as well as used to make fire and make Ochre - They found further use in punishing those who broke Aboriginal law.
They were made by both men and women and could be painted or left unpainted. Their construction varied from tribe to tribe, but they were generally about one metre in length and sometimes had a stone head attached with string. They were made from where a branch met the tree, or from a young tree pulled up with its roots from the ground.
Originally, the word waddy referred to a tree, or any piece of wood, as well as a verb meaning to 'beat up or kill with a club'.
It has also been spelled as wadi, wady, and waddie. The spelling stabilised around the mid-nineteenth century, partly to help distinguish it from the Arabic language - word Wadi - a dry water course.[ Perhaps mods could take note of the breaking law clause]
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

I thought this thread was about a joke, not politics.

Some people seem to be humour-free zones when it comes to politics.

    As mentioned elsewhere...

It is so frustrating to wade through all this rubbish to find the posts relevant to the thread....

Oh that's right .....THERE IS NONE!

Back on track, I thought the joke was quite funny. I'd have a beer with her round the campfire - I reckon she'd swear like a trooper....

This whole thread is a joke!!!

    Wagoo, you're an old sourpuss!

Here, a take on how the Yanks received the joke:

As I read it, I hoped that the National Post article was tongue in cheek. Although given the difficulty some Americans seem to have coping with the Australian sense of humour, it is hard to be sure.

Some of the people who posted comments after the article seem to be quite unaware of the existence of satire.

She had to be wooden for the joke to work. The fact so many people are taking it the wrong way just proves she did a good job being wooden. I reckon she'd be a hoot around a campfire.
And I'm not biased - I'd laugh at a Tony Abbott joke - if he ever said anything funny.

Yes. Part of the reason it works as a joke (for those who are amused by it), is because it looks and sounds like a genuine Prime Ministerial press conference or address to the nation. It needs to be delivered in her usual style with all the solemnity she can muster.

The downside of that is that while it needs to be delivered that way for the joke to work it isn't as entertaining as Obama's Birth Certificate routine. His response to those who persist with the notion that he was born outside the USA or on some distant planet was a great comedy piece.

FWIIW, I thought the PM's little speech was a fairly clever way of poking fun at the silly "end of the world" nonsense that some people believe.
