Important for residents in the Mt Martha or Mornington
The Country Fire Authority (CFA) has urged residents in the Mt Martha or Mornington, north of Craigie Road and south of Bungower, to return to their homes and check for damage.
The CFA has been called to 48 fires, 14 of which could have been serious.
CFA spokesman Trevor Owen says people who live in the densely-populated area should return to their homes to check on them if possible.
He says people should call triple-0 if they see or smell smoke or if they hear a ringing smoke alarm nearby.
And he is urging those who are at home to keep an eye on nearby properties.
"We have been able to get on top of these fires by... responding quickly," he said.
