Gday All,
Been having alot of trouble getting people who want to do casual work lately as most of our fisheries are either closed or winding down, and sick of hearing the excuses from the usual guys who work.
About a week ago a lady who teaches english to new imigrants came and see me about employing some of her students, so after several days of people either not turning up, or coming in hung over. I gave 3 of them a try.
2 blokes from Afghanistan, and 1 from Libyia.
Must say I was impressed, the language barrier was a bit difficalt when it come to the mountain of paperwork our company gets new employe's to fill out, but al in all, if its good enough for the Government to give them residency, then it good enough for me to give them a go.
Made some of my usual guys step back and take notice. They put in a good days work, so will try and give them a bit more when I can.
Cheers Ean
Well done and good on you.
I do have to ask, why won't the local aussies work properly?
Cheers
Ralph
Beause they're union protected, welfare state raised, borderline alcoholic, pampered, tattooed, lazy layabouts?
I may have generalised there.
Incidentally, I have advertised twice for two members of my (IT) department in recent months. Do you know how many Aussies actually applied out of the 60 appplications received?
1.
All the rest were overseas applicants from everywhere from the UK to Turkey to the Phillipines to Singapore.
I think its a combination of things,
We only have work about 2 days a week at the moment for any more than about 2 people because of the lack of boats fishing this time of year , so hard to expect people to survive on that.
I am more just sick of the BS excuses and lazy attitude that seems to have crept into young aussie these days, I have had people turn up for work at 7am with a beer in their hand and wonder why I wont let them work, the attitude seems to be its christmas so time to party and stuff work.
Anyway, its just a situation I found myself in and these guys seemed to be keen for a go, so really I had nothing to loose , but plenty to gain.
I will likely try a few more when we unload the fish trawlers ,as I use about 14 people for those unloads.
Cheers Ean
good one ean.
that is the main reason there is only 2 of us working at my place. sick of attitudes of 'everyone owes me' and the lack of motivation and respect of the majority of the young workforce these days.
society has allowed this to happen, and it will take forever to get back to the good old 'hard days work for a good days pay' that seemed the norm when i was looking at joining the workforce proper at 18.
