    New Friends

For those who don't know we own a small caravan park. This is a park where most of our income comes from permenent residents and this time of year we fill up with fruit pickers. We don't get many tourists here.

Last Wednesday a couple rocked in with an Isuzu County (with QLD reg) and a camper in tow. They booked for one night. They came in the next day and paid for two more nights. I started chatting Landrovers with them(as you do) and in the conversation I mentioned that I was in the Victorian Landrover Club.

They told me that they had recently joined themselves so I suggested that they come over to our residence that night for drinks. We had a great time which went well into the night.

The next night they waltzed over for another session, which we did not mind at all. They decided to stay another night and left this morning.

They were great people and we all had a great time, and I feel that we have just made some life long friends from this.

I did pose the question, if I owned a landcruiser, and they rocked up to my park in a landcruiser, would the above happened. I very much doubt it, they would have just been another customer.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Just as UncleHo said, it's and exclusive club.

I met a courier driver the other day who is from Sudan. He stood looking at my car for some time before he came in. When asked what he was doing, he went on to tell me how much he loves Defenders and that he wants one.
I pointed out my sticker and said come and join.
He was saying all the roads being built over there are being done by a German company,, but they all drive LR's

This and other conversations I've had with various drivers never happened when I drove Toyotas.

Well just as a ditty of info
Rommel of WW2 Desert Fox fame's favourite desert command truck was a captured British piece of kit. In fact his forces had two of these AEC Matador ACV units which he called Max and Moritz.

I drove one as an apprentice in the west of England in my youth as a converted truck wrecker. A very capable 4x4 and could easily recover/tow most stuff.
So I could see how the man himself would be impressed by its construction. Even Germans recognize good stuff when they see it.

Scroll down on the attachment and there are some piccies of the two in Desert Korps insignia.

    Dave

That would be Graeme and Lyndal and their little fella.

What a great couple they are and yes , it's a Landrover thing. Other brand owners just don't understand the magic

Sure their cars are reliable and comfy and quiet but ours have soul

Pete. You have obviously met them. Looking at your avatar it does not surprise me.

    Hi Dave,
Just as a follow up to your post, Leeanne and I are traveling the SW coast at present, have just pulled into a Camping Reserve at Princeton, and guess what,, your friendly mates Graeme and Lyndal
We rocked in, spotted the County, and people waving at us. As I understand, you will probably see them again soonish,, but I'll leave the rest for them.
    Really nice friendly couple
