Misting Fans
We'll have my folks (both high 80's) over for Christmas Day & the good wife suggested getting a misting fan for the deck. I can't find much info on these type of fans so would anyone be able to give me some advice, such as: Do they really work or is it psychological, how much water do they use as we're on tank only, etc, etc.
Merry Christmas

We've got one, although I can't see the point of the "misting". Ours just pushes out a bit of fog that disappears after blowing about 6 inches.
Maybe its just a "Ron Special" though, I don't know.
Doesn't appear to use much water.

Evaporative cooling. They do work, especially if you use cool water.

A lot of dairy farmers use a 2'- 3' misting fan to keep cows cool in summer. Uses very little water & works wonders. But thats an industrial type fan. Cant remember the brand at the moment.

I lived in Cairns for a number of years, and some of the newer venues fitted misting sprays in combination with ceiling fans, it certainly felt considerably cooler & quite refreshing. Shook be more effective in a drier (less humid) climate.

Saw one at Bunnings on the weekend. Was operating at the front door.

i've also been looking at misting fans lately and was thinking of fitting something to an existing fan rather than buy a complete unit.
I've seen the misting kits for patios etc in bunnings but they are a bit long at 3 metres.
I'm really after this sort of thing but can only find them in the US....

According to Bunnings each nozzle use's 1.89 litres per hour so quite a lot if your on tank.

Have just been informed by phone that a fan has been purchased. I'll put up a report in a day or two.
